We're making progress

News from the obstetrician today was compelling. At least, it was to me and my sore hips, knees and ankles, and aching pelvic bones.

The LG is still head-down and in perfect position. I imagine the more I talk about this, the higher the chances of a loop-de-loop, but I'm living on the edge these days. She said I've dilated one centimeter (whoo!) and that the LG is lower in my pelvis than it was last week. I was happy to hear it wasn't my imagination, or wishful thinking, that the baby had dropped a bit. I'm still snoring like a freight train so please ignore the circles under Hunter's eyes.

The best part was when I asked the doctor how much the baby weighs right now. All the books give you an estimate each week, so I wanted to know how the LG stacked up. Because I'm competitive like that. But instead of right now, the answer I got was:

"I think by the time you deliver, your baby will be 8 and a half pounds or so."

People, I had my game on for an 7-pound baby. I was around 6 pounds, and Hunter was around 7, so I have been visualizing a 7.5-pound baby – 8 pounds max.

Now, I know that many women, including some I am related to, have given birth to bigger babies and lived to tell the tale. And I'm happy that the LG is healthy – I told him or her so right after I got into the car and used a choice curse word three times at the prospect of pushing out a baby that size.

I got a little kick that I interpreted as, "It's OK, Mom. Don't be a hero, get the drugs."

Ok so this is a little exercise. Go to the grocery and pick out an 8 1/2 pound turkey. Stare at it intently, noting itsheft. Then throw it back into the case and run from the store screaming. Maybe the jolt will bring on some action and he/she won't be able to "bulk up."
I know stunts like that are what caused Hunter to turn out the way he has and stunted Julie's growth.

If it's any consolation, the doc told me Max would be around 6 1/2 and he was only 5 lb 1 oz, and then the doc told me Cate would be almost 7, and she came out at 5 lb 5 oz. So, let's hope your doc is guessing on the larger side, and that he/she is actually a little smaller! Either way, I have faith that you will do great! As long as I have known you, you have never NOT been able to accomplish what you have set out to do!

Good Luck and I can't wait to hear the good news!
