The First 48

I had about a half-hour when Ryan wasn't attached to my breast, so I tried to eat, clean the house, shower and blog in that time. There are 10 fewer things on the floor now and I've had some yogurt and a tortilla (yum!), and now you all know what I'll be doing once this post is up.

We are bone tired but I think Hunter still loves me, and I certainly couldn't do this without him. He has a cold. I tried to make it through last night by myself and woke him up after he'd had about three hours of sleep and handed him screaming Ryan and said, "Help."

The man said, "Turn on the dryer." And I did. And the crying stopped -- for Ryan. I cried with relief and then gave my dear husband the bird for having such a great idea despite being loaded up with Nyquil.

We're coping. Thank you all for your warm wishes and wonderful calls and e-mails and FOOD and everything. My heart is so full.

Here's some shots from Ryan's first two days on Earth.

In the post-delivery room, which we didn't leave for two days, Ryan got star treatment, complete with heated blankets. I told him not to get used to that.

Hunter posted below about Maddie's visit, but I'll add: When she left she didn't just say she loved him. She said, "I love you Ryan all the way to the moon!"

It was awesome.

I could write a whole post on the bureacracy of leaving the hospital, but why be a downer? We escaped, Ryan oblivious to it all.

When we got home, we discovered a group of outlaw decorators had hit our house.

Michelle, Maddie, Maiken, Glenn, Chris and Tonia all had the same idea and showed up at the same time. Quoth Glenn: "The signs that look professional? Michelle and Maddie. The signs that look like a band of drunkards put them up? Me and Maiken and Chris and Tonia."

Ryan spent his first evening at home in front of the fire. We ate yummy Italian mac and cheese from sous chef and recovering crazy new mom Kelly. That woman can cook!

Buddy never got any closer than this. He is verclempt.

Now, a few for laughs. Doesn't Baby Alive look perky? She's really happy after a harrowing birth adventure. Ryan is not impressed.

Here's wishing us a few hours of sleep tonight, too.

I LOVE the pictures -- especially the one of Buddy.

Shower. Sleep when you can. I keep wanting to call, but I don't want to a) wake up a baby or b) wake you up. I will probably try later this week. I am thinking of you a lot. And there's a package on the way.

xoxo,

L

He looks like a sweet little baby doll! Try the bathroom fan too...Sophie always liked that. I can't wait to talk to you and to meet him. :-)

The pictures are precious. I especially love the last one. Kathleen, I can see so much of you in him. I am glad that both you and Ryan are doing well. These first few weeks will be a little sleep deprived, but it is all worth it and I am sure you know that. Hang in there. Miss ya!
