The Happiest Baby in the Midwest

Hunter and I had a wonderful weekend in Wisconsin, filled with family, grilled bratwurst and much cooing over Sophia Grace. She is cool. To wit:

Julie and Rob, her parents, gave Hunter and me the rundown on how they deal with a fussy newborn, including a screening of The Happiest Baby on the Block DVD. We got through only the Shushing and Jiggling parts, then we moved on to a trash-talking session of Mario Kart on the Wii. (Sophia slept right through the match, clearly soothed by her father kicking her aunt's and uncle's butt in race after race.)

Julie also taught me Proper Diaper Changing Technique and How To Dress A Wiggling Child, which provided invaluable tips on the kinds of clothing I should avoid for the Littlest George. Um, buttons? On a newborn dress? Why not just make me sew the clothing shut? Because wielding a needle and thread would cause the baby just as much distress.

Sophia is a great baby, but since she's still pretty new to this world, she sleeps. A lot. Which is cute, too (especially if you love her).

Sleeping through the baptism, with godfather Hunter and godmother Jill Pfund:

Sleeping on Aunt Kathleen, who looks like she needs sleep herself after a heinous travel day:

Sleeping on the porch with Hunter after downing two beers, a grilled bratwurst and several pieces of lemon pound cake (OK, that was Hunter's lunch):

Hunter and I feel lucky to be related to the Pfunds. Julie and Rob have a great crew around them.
