These pictures were taken last week, at the beginning of Mimi's visit and before Ryan developed a yeast infection on his face that makes him look like The Reptile Child. I mean, it's really bad. I wonder if Child Protective Services is on their way. But we're putting cream on it twice a day so I have hope that it'll clear up before puberty.
Anyway, Mimi visited for a week and snuggled Ryan. In between snuggles, she stocked our freezer with so many yummy things, maybe I won't have to cook until Ryan hits puberty! Well, a girl can dream.
Mimi was such a help. We took to calling Ryan "The King" during his visit, which let us laugh when he fussed because The King Is Not Happy! And his subjects hopped to it.

Mimi talked and talked to Ryan, and he rewarded her with big eyes and cooing, and his first smiles happened on her last evening here. She also sang folk songs to Ryan, with many of the lyrics substituted with "I don't remember the words, la la la." It was awesome.

I'm this close to cracking the code of the nap. I've figured out when he needs one, but getting him to go down requires the right combination of swaddling, shushing, sucking, a vibrating chair and some serious white noise. Yesterday it was the exhaust fan in the bathroom and a moderate flow of water hitting the tub. I got an extra hour of sleep this morning by turning on the dryer and running the womb-sounds bear at top volume. And at this moment, he's snoozing in the kitchen with the exhaust fan on high. Ryan has a huge carbon footprint.
And Aunt Julie, a big swing is on the way! I went to two stores yesterday and didn't find one I liked, so online I went. How did we live before Amazon.com?

At Ryan's one-month checkup last week, he weighed in at 10 pounds, 9.5 ounces -- the muffin forcefeeding is working! He's still 20 inches long but his scrunchy frog legs make that measurement less than reliable. Our pediatrician said Ryan is fabulous and was particularly complimentary of his round head and strong neck muscles. Tummy time on my chest is working!
Tonight Ryan will hang out with Marce, Mommy Posse Charter Member. Hunter and I have a work-related dinner to attend, so this is our first non-family baby sitter!
The King better be good.

He looks fabulous...I see yummy thigh rolls! :-) I tell you the swing was great for us. Put it all the way back so he can recline and relax, then set it on the fast setting. I know, you will think he's going to fly across the room but that is the best setting. Sophie still naps in the swing at the sitter's house during the day.
Sophie and I are counting the days until we arrive out there. Love and hugs to you all.
Hunter Sr. is so jealous but he is determined to get Ryan to say Poppy before he says Mimi. I don't knowww Mama and Mimi sound pretty alike and maybe I can cheat and win! I need to learn the words to more songs before he catches on.
