Why is this man smiling?

Ryan is six-and-a-half weeks old and his smile is here. Yesterday morning, after a good feeding, we had enough of them to capture a few on camera.

He's talking to us regularly, cooing and saying "goo" in a way that makes us laugh out loud. Often his "goo" is preceded by a very loud, dramatic cry that might make some think a meltdown is coming. But I have figured it out! Other times he burps loudly then follows it up with "ah-ooo." And sometimes, just sometimes, there's something that sounds like "ah ha!" Like, "ah ha! I finally understand breastfeeding!"

He's smirking, too:

Our smiley photo shoot had a moment of seriousness in the middle. A few minutes later, it became clear why.

Smiley time ended with me cutting off another onesie (for those of you keeping score, we've trashed three in the six weeks of his life). And Ryan got a bath. Because in the George household, baths are required when there's poop below the knee and/or above the belly button.

Love the pics...but the serious one is my favorite...too funny about the cutting onesies!

I second that, Allison!

Hopefully by spring he will have adjusted his pooping. By then you will have cut up all of his onsies but maybe he can go barechested! I plan on buying hgim a Hawaiian shirt.
