It takes a village

For Labor Day we had a cookout with our neighbors, and we used our patio despite the unseasonably cool weather we've had this summer. It was a nice temperature until dessert, so we ate Tonia's fabulous apple crisp inside.

Besides the great conversation, we loved playing with Tonia's and Chris's daughter, Hailey. She's about 20 months and curious about everything! Hunter and I enjoy watching her discover things and are looking forward to that part of raising the Littlest George. (Until we remember that Hailey and her ball of energy go home with her parents, and we realize that we can't send our child home with them, too. Then we yawn and ask ourselves what we were thinking, and can't the child just be in college immediately?)

Among other things, Hailey drew with Crayons, put rocks in her bucket and dumped them out, pet the cat, danced to the B-52s and ate fresh peas from her father's garden. That kid knows how to spend an afternoon.
