After quitting coffee at Week 7, I'm ending the restriction at Week 14. Hunter endured weeks of griping, so you all should send him a congratulatory note.
As many of you know, I'm a research nerd. So I've read as much literature on this as I can stand and I've talked to tons of people including my doctor. Most everyone seems to agree that one cup a day will not cause our little one to grow a third hand. In fact, an aunt who will remain anonymous had a fabulous son named David and had coffee through her pregnancy. (So David, there's no excuse for not being happy in your life. You had coffee in utero.)
Despite my love for coffee, I don't really drink that much of it. I don't drink cokes (for the Yankees, that's Southern generic for soda pop). Pre-pregnancy, it was one cup of black in the morning, then a latte in the afternoon. I think my addiction to Ann Taylor Loft is a much bigger problem. And so, I celebrated the dawning of Week 14 on Saturday with a frappuccino. It was delicious.
As I drank it at my desk, my friend Carmen shook her head.
"Now you've done it. Your child might have been a physicist, but now he'll be a journalist."
With the George genes, I'm not sure he or she had any choice. And since journalism's future includes blogging, recording audio and shooting video, that extra hand might be put to good use.

Nice blog entry today. And a big hand to you, too.
It's fun reading your blog...you're so much more witty than me. Of course, I'm the black sheep of the family - i.e. the non-writer - so that's to be expected. And just so you know, I had diet cokes about 4 days a week while I was incubating Sophie and she turned out adorable so no worries!

I quit coffee, but I do have a coke once in a while. It's my little treat to myself and it helps get rid of headaches too.
Hey, back in the dark ages when I had my kids 27 and 24 years ago, we knew not to drink alcohol but nobody said anything about caffeine. So I downed a cup of coffee every morning (and I drink it strong, like old Hunter) and I probably had a coke every afternoon. My kids had all their fingers and toes and won scholarships to college. Just don't overdo it. I'm sure your baby will be a genius, and gorgeous too! Congratulations!
