This is what family looks like

This post is dedicated to Maddie's mother, Michelle, and to Hunter's mother, Patty – both of whom suffered along with Ryan's immediate family in The Worst Stomach Bug Ever.

OKAY, FINE, it was The Worst Stomach Bug of The Decade. The WORST.

People, Michelle and I both went to the hospital for rehydrating fluids. Patty barely made it home (her exposure was her reward for taking care of Ryan while Hunter and I frolicked in San Francisco). Maddie didn't make it out of bed. It was rough. And it all started Easter Sunday.

Here is Patient A in his half-Easter outfit, since it was too cold to wear shorts. He sported his white shirt to church, then he and Maddie opened their Easter baskets. (The bunny brought him a mini-football, three trucks and a pack of Crayons.)

Then we all died for a week.

Sunday: Ryan and Mimi.

Monday: Michelle. Hunter takes her to the ER late Monday night.

Tuesday morning: Hunter.

Tuesday evening: Me. Hunter takes me to the ER late Tuesday night. I insist he drop me off so he can sleep, and I take a cab home.

Thursday evening: Maddie.

The Parenting Council spent the night at each other's houses, the strongest among us taking kids to school, fixing meals and generally holding each other up. Mom Posse Charter Member Kelly called every day to make sure there were no new ER trips. I must say, our blended family rocked.

By the following Sunday, we were normal again. It was a miracle. So to celebrate our health and the warm weather, Ryan wore his complete Easter outfit. Get ready to die of cuteness:

In other news, Ryan is his parents' son. Dad's genes (read a book to relax):

Mom's genes (read the paper and get mad):

Our genes (live in and love the moment):

We have his 15-month checkup tomorrow, where I'll report that Ryan can say:

Uh-oh, outside, dada, hi, bye-bye, cheese, puppy, baby, kitty and "uppy," which has meaning only to him. He still drinks more from a bottle than a cup, and we're working on the transition. He wants to climb on anything that will stand still, and adores his sister above all else. And he throws a tantrum every five minutes, regardless of the news out of the Middle East. I'll let you know how the appointment goes.

Thank you so much for the update and all the cute new pictures. Ryan really rocks his Easter duds. All he needed was a pair of pointy toed, brown lizard cowboy boots to complete the ensemble. Sure as the stars are over Texas I am certain that Grandma Peggy will keep him well supplied in the proper gear as he grows up to be a rodeo star, riding bulls instead of swings.

Hunter is such a cutie! My mom says he looks just like you did when you were little (I was little too, so I don't remember!) but I can see the resemblance. Sorry to hear that you all had a run-in with a nasty bug - glad you're better. I recognized the Tails book that Hunter is reading. My little one has it too! Take care!
